Lanta Town on Koh Lanta in Krabi Province

Old Lanta Town is a step back in time. There are no guesthouses, no streets thronged with glassy-eyed tourists.
There is a paved street running along the beachfront and a cluster of 60-100-year-old, Sino-Portuguese style wooden houses built on pilings out into the sea.

Nopparat Thara Beach in Krabi

Located within 18 km west of Krabi Town and just next to Ao Nang, quiet Noppharat Thara Beach lies within the Hat Noppharat Thara-Ko Phi Phi National Park and features a 3 kilometer long sandy stretch lined by Casuarina trees.
An excellent beach, also if you prefer to have natural shade provided by the trees. Like most of Krabi's beaches, you won't find miles of deckchairs and beach umbrellas, so buy a beach mat and find a perfect spot.
It's is also possible at low tide to walk from the beach across to Koh Kao Pak Klong island in the bay.
A small nightlife spot with few bar beers and a live band is now available at the very beginning of the beach. Quiet but friendly.

Koh Poda in Krabi

Koh Poda is a small limestone island 25 minutes by boat from the beaches of the Raileh peninsular (which can be seen on the horizon in the photograph).
The circular island is no more than a kilometre in diameter, covered in palm trees and almost entirely encircled by a soft white sand beach.
The coral gardens and reefs are very nice here (but not as good as around Koh Phi Phi) and invite for snorkeling and diving trips.

Koh Gai (Chicken Island)

Koh Gai (Chicken island) got its name from a bizarre rock formation which resembles the head of a chicken.
One end of the island consists of steep cliffs, while the other end has beautiful beaches along a peninsula. This peninsula gets flooded at high tide, creating a small island. There is no accomodation on Chicken island.
It can get a little busy, particuarly during the main tourist season.
Our advice: go in the rainy season - it's quieter, cheaper and you may even feel like you're on a deserted tropical island.

Koh Hong in Krabi

Koh Hong is located 25 kilometers from Ao Nang. Not to be confused with the other Koh Hong in Phang Nga Bay, these tiny islands are simply beautiful. Spectacular beaches and hidden lagoons with shoals of colorful fish that literally eat out of your hand.
The cliffs and bays invite for a little eco-adventure and most recommended activitiy is sea kayaking - quietly glide through shallow water and explore around caves inaccessible to larger boats. Permanent residents include sea eagles soaring above and starfish just below the surface.
